Patient Classification
CLASS 1 - SEVERE
"Highest Priority"
URGENTLife threatening illness or injury.
Example:
Cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest or severe distress, severe hemorrhaging, multiple systems injury, severe burns, poisoning, severe head injury, coma, shock, severe eye injury, very high fever, open chest or abdominal wounds.
CLASS 2- MODERATE
"High Priority"
EMERGENTPatient currently stable, but serious. May become Class 1.
Example:
Cardiac problems, cervical injury, large wounds with bleeding controlled, multiple fractures, conscious head injury or overdose which is currently stable.
CLASS 3 - MILD
"Low Priority"
NON-EMERGENTPatient has minor problems and is stable. No serious problem(s) encountered.
Example:
Minor wounds, fractures and burns.
CLASS 4 - PROBABLE DEATH
